- Recorded April 22, 2006, in Olympia, Washington
NOW AVAILABLE AS STREAMING VIDEO >>> Click the image of the viewer below and you'll be transported to the Google Video server ... Contact: pdxjustice@riseup.net
Diana Buttu is a Palestinian-Canadian lawyer. In 2000, she left North America to move to Palestine in order to assist with the then "peace" negotiations between the Palestinians and Israel as one of the PLO's legal advisors. With the outbreak of the second Palestinian uprising against Israel's occupation (and the breakdown of negotiations) Diana decided to remain in Palestine.
She gained prominence during Israel's invasion of the West Bank, serving as spokesperson for the PLO. Ms Buttu assisted in the litigation of Israel's wall before the Hague in 2004 - a resounding victory for the Palestinians, and indictment of Israel's wall. In 2005 she was appointed President Abbas's communications director. She has since left her official posts. She now resides in Gaza where she is writing a book on the Israeli occupation.
Prior to moving to Palestine in 2000, Ms Buttu also served as legal counsel to the Canadian Department of Justice. She holds law degrees from the University of Toronto and Stanford Law School.
Selected Articles: Israel's Unilateral Disengagement: Future of the Gaza Strip Diana Buttu Addresses Prospects for Peace, Grave Humanitarian Crisis in Palestine
This lecture was presented at the Rachel Corrie Foundation Peace Works Conference on April 22, 2006, in Olympia, Washington. The Israeli journalist and author, Amira Hass, was Ms. Buttu's co-presenter. This program includes a preview of Ms. Hass' presentation.

Dotan Greenvald and Yehuda Shaul - Breaking the Silence: Israeli Soldiers Speak Out
- Recorded November 7, 2006, in Portland, Oregon
NOW AVAILABLE AS STREAMING VIDEO >>> Click the image of the viewer below and you'll be transported to the Google Video server ... Contact: pdxjustice@riseup.net
Two former Israeli soldiers, Dotan Greenvald and Yehuda Shaul, speak about their experiences serving the Israeli occupation in the West Bank. Greenvald and Shaul are members of "Breaking the Silence", an organization dedicated to revealing the day-to-day character of the military occupation of Palestinian land and communities.
The first initiative of these former Israeli soldiers was a photo exhibition: "Breaking the Silence - Fighters Tell About Hebron". The project grew out of the soldiers' desire to show to their families and to the country as a whole what had largely remained hidden from view. For the first time, a window was opened to the world of soldiers serving in Hebron, a predominantly Palestinian-Arab community within which a Jewish-only settlement had been established. Thousands of Israelis have viewed the exhibition from all walks of life, perhaps most important, many other Israeli soldiers and their families.
As the members of "Breaking the Silence" began to investigate, interview and document the testimony of hundreds of former combat soldiers, the true character of the Israeli occupation and its impact on Palestinians and Israelis began to emerge.

IN MEMORY OF TANYA REINHART
Dear Friends,
We woke to some very, very sad news this morning. Tanya Reinhart passed away yesterday, March 17th, 2007, in New York. This is a terrible loss, yes, to all who new her, but also for anybody who has any hopes for a just peace in Palestine/Israel. Her many articles and her two books were unique in their contributions to understanding what's going on in that troubled region.
Below we've posted a June 18, 2003, lecture Tanya presented at a peace conference in Tel Aviv organized by the Faculty for Israeli-Palestinian Peace. You can also hear an interview with Tanya, posted further down on this webpage, discussing the removal of the Israeli settlements from Gaza in the summer of 2005.
We send our condolences to Tanya's family and friends.
In sadness,
William Seaman
